Installation overview

The Windows companion is included. Node.js, npm, Chocolatey, Python and separate MCP SDK downloads are not required.

Requirements

• Windows 10 or Windows 11 x64
• Unity 2022.3 LTS or a later supported release
• ChatGPT desktop with compatible Codex plugin support
• A compatible OpenAI account; separate service charges may apply

Install

1. Import the Asset Store package into the Unity project.
2. Open Window → Developer Bridge → Setup.
3. Close ChatGPT desktop before installing or updating.
4. Select Install Codex Companion and confirm.
5. Restart ChatGPT, open Plugins, select the Personal marketplace and install or enable Developer Bridge.
6. Open a local Codex project chat and confirm unity-developer-bridge-local is enabled.
7. Keep the Unity project open while using the bridge.

Upgrades

Import the new package, then use the Setup window to update the companion. The installer validates staged content and backs up the existing companion, Personal marketplace and Codex configuration before replacement.
